Are You Experiencing Writer's Block?

If you're new to blogging, one of the toughest challenges you'll face as you start your new blog is determining your blog's content.  There are many different styles of blogs to consider.  I'll discuss a few different types of blogs (and show examples) that may inspire you and help you overcome writer's block:

Travel and Cultural Blog - Blogs can be a great place to keep track of your adventures.  There are a variety of blog formats that can highlight the pictures, videos, and reviews that you share about your trips.  You can share travel tips based on your own experiences and make traditional "postcards" a thing of the past.  Example: http://everything-everywhere.com/

Reviews - "Review" is one of the most commonly searched for words online.  This type of blog will allow you and your readers to share opinions about products, such as electronics, movies, music, video games, and more. Example: http://blog.tradetang.com/

Fashion and Lifestyle - People are always looking for the latest trends and blogs are a great way to showcase them.  From promoting good health and wellness, to sharing the most fashionable ideas and innovative styles; blogs can showcase your passions and create a forum for reference groups to collaborate.  Examples: http://vainandvapid.blogspot.com/ and http://www.foodpolitics.com/

How To/Tutorial Blog - People are constantly searching for information online that shows them how to do things and this type of blog helps others learn.  It's important that the writer truly knows how to develop a well-written post on a "how to" blog.  This type of blog should be reserved for experts because a good tutorial post is often followed by lots of comments and questions from readers. Example: http://ana-white.com/

Personal Blog - This is the most common type of blog.  These blogs revolve around people's experiences.  They can house a wide range of content and a variety of posts, and contain details about your interests and day-to-day thoughts.  Example: http://www.cc-chapman.com/blog/

Black Ops Creates Opportunity for Fans and Bloggers

Opinions and word-of-mouth advertising affect our purchase decisions every day.  This is especially true in the gaming industry.  The top selling video game of 2010 was Call of Duty: Black Ops.  The hype leading up to the release of the video game was second to none.  Call of Duty fans were anticipating the game's release for months, but there was no guarantee the game would live up to player's expectations.

It's not uncommon for gamers to read reviews before deciding on their next game purchase.  IGN is one of the most popular game review websites or blogs.  A good review can influence someone to purchase a game they're unsure of and a negative review can have a devastating impact on perceptions of a game.

Shortly after Black Ops hit shelves, a series of blogs that focus on the game started popping up all over the web.  Call of Duty: Black Ops Blog, Black Ops 2010, and Call of Duty 7: Black Ops are just a few blogs that fans follow to learn more about game tips, tricks, and news.  These blogs create a forum for gamers to share ideas and a subculture community.

Has a review ever impacted your decision to purchase an entertainment product?  If so, explain how.

The Blogging Musician

Blogs are a great way to connect with your customers.  They allow brands (and bands) to connect with consumers on a personal level.  No wonder so many musicians are using blogs to reach out to their fans!

The blogging musician can see many benefits by using this social media outlet. They have the ability to:
·      Share personal information, pictures, interests, and adventures
·      Promote endorsed products, clothing lines, and their latest tracks or albums
·      Increase interaction with followers.  Fans can comment on blog posts and the artist can comment back
·      Understand consumer behavior.  Musicians can take into consideration their fan's feelings about performances, music, etc.

Over the last several months, I’ve put together a list of musicians who blog.  Check some of them out!  And if you have any new examples to add, please comment below with your example.
