This video was released in fall of 2009 at a convergence conference. It really puts things in perspective. If you think about how fast the world is changing and how much technology is shaping our culture, it can be scary.
More and more people are blogging every day. If you’re not blogging, the person competing for the same job may be. This could give them a competitive edge in the workplace if their blog content is impressive.

Wow! I am amazed at this video. This just goes to show how rapidly our society is evolving due to new technology. I was amazed at the fact that "More video was uploaded to YouTube in the last 2 months that if NBC, ABC, and CBS had been airing new content 24/7/365 since 1948." People are bombarded with ads, videos, music, images constantly. It is getting harder and harder to stand out and be unique. That is one of the hardest tasks for a blogger; getting the attention from a crowded web full of blogs. However, if done right, and the content is in demand, one can be successful.
ReplyDeleteThis is slightly disconcerting to me in a way that emphasizes the digital age. If you think about the interference a small solar storm can have on everything from cell phones to servers, and how much the newer generations have become dependent on these technologies it doesn't make me feel too confident in our ability to exist outside of our technology. While I have met and conversed with people from all over the world thanks to instant messaging services, I fear that without taking the time to instill basic communication principals we will be incapable of interacting face to face, and then what happens when the internet is longer a fully functional resource for information, interaction, and marketing?
ReplyDeleteEverything can be good in moderation, the abuse of technology however, can lead us to very serious repercussions in my opinion.
It's very astonishing to see where technology is taking us as we drift further into the future. To think, a few years ago a lot of technology and devices that we are using now didn't even exist and may not have even been a thought. I see commercials all the time now for 3D television sets and I can't help but question myself and ask why? 3D is a pretty amazing thing but I have my doubts on how long 3D television will last in today's world. That's the wonderful thing about this world and technology, something can be here today and gone tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIt crazy how the world of digital technology is growing more and more everyday. It doesn't seem to be slowing down at all. I didn't really realize just how much it affects our lives. The facts in this video are crazy! 200+ cable TV networks and theres still nothing good on TV hahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteWhile it is true that a blog can be a competitive advantage, the opposite is true as well; putting out a blog with poor spelling, grammar, and erroneous information can be harmful, and can cost you jobs. Copy writing is its own art form, and it takes time to master. If you can't write well, try to emphasize areas you do excel in; visuals, music, etc., and differentiate yourself that way. Find someone with good writing skills to proofread your work. The idea is to stand out in a good way, not to stick out as an example of 'what not to do!'
ReplyDeleteThe statistics in this video are absolutely insane! Especially considering that after it was posted the amount of iPhone apps has more than doubled. I wonder how many other statistics are completely inaccurate now. This video really displays the technological convergence we are in and how important it is to market digitally.
ReplyDeleteAmazing video that demonstrates something that we all thought we knew, but apparently we didn't know how intense the effect social media has had on the world in the past ten years. Technology is growing at a rapid pace and in that growth we have seen big losers, think about the record industry, and big winners, hello FaceBook.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I started at a newspaper in 1995 the internet was just barely coming into the mainstream and we still pasted ads together with glue and tape before shooting them with a conventional camera so we could make plates for the press. One year later all the glue and tape was obsolete and we emailed the computer designed files to the pre-press department. Three years later the newspaper was out of business because people could get the same news in minutes instead of the next day service we offered. This video shows that that technology is not slowing down, only getting faster and those businesses who do not jump on the social media wagon will ultimately be lost like that newspaper.
This video in my opinion simply reinforces what most of us already know. Technology is evolving faster than it ever has in HISTORY! That means we are apart of a generation that has made more technological progress than any generation. Does it make us the smartest generation?? I wouldn't go that far but we are definitely the most efficient (or lazy if want to look at it that way). This video combines a lot of interesting statistics and puts it all in perspective brilliantly. These facts confirm that if you would like to progess in the future you must evolve with technology and NEVER get too comfortable.
ReplyDeleteThis video was very informative, I liked it. I always love the facts and yes it did prove how fast technology is growing. It also allowed us to see how far we have come and we are going farther than we have come much faster.
ReplyDeleteThe video and the blog itself shows how far technology has come in the past decade compare that to how far we came in the 20th century and it blows you away. What took people a hundred years to create and use we have in the palm of our hands and new technology seems to come out everyday now. Its just amazing how far we have come and the way we are going it will be even more amazing five years down the road.
